OCTOBER 2010 ISSUE ON SALE NOW
1/10th F1 Winter Season is now sadly over...

now the real F1 season has a lot to live up to!

Running Gecko Foams on his F109 from 3 Racing, Dez Chand, Editor of Race Car Magazine, and seasoned RC F1 fan has been competing at tracks all over the country to evaluate their performance.

Using clubs running regular F1 meetings including:- Ardent Raceway, Stafford, Don Valley, Tamworth and Bedworth to set up and evaluate the new Gecko F1 tyres, Dez has gone on to clinch the winter series title at Tamworth, a 7 round indoors series on carpet, which has seen 4 different winners in this close competition running Mardave G2 motors as a sensible indoor formula.

"The Gecko tyres proved consistent and reliable, requiring minimal additive to perform well,  with usually just a 'wipe-on and wipe-off' to clean the tyre from the previous race"

But did these tyres work just as well outdoors? Well there was only one way to find out!

Using a new set of Gecko tyres to win the last round of the Tamworth Winter series on the Saturday night, the next day Dez then joined the last round of the equally popular Bedworth Winter Championships.

They have an open motor rule, so anything goes, and the same set of Gecko tyres were used, as was the same chassis geometry, powered by the Mardave G2 Brushless system from Mtroniks, to set Pole position.

Dez went on win both legs of the A finals and set new race and lap records for F1 at Bedworth in the process!

Well done from all the RRCi crew, it's great to see RC F1 growing from strength to strength here in the UK, and as ever Dez is still 'Setting The Pace' in this interesting class of racing!

And the tyre wear after two full meetings, indoors and out?

  • Just 1mm off the rear and 0.5mm off the fronts.
How's that for performance and value?
  • Compounds 35 front, 27 Rear.
  • Size 52 front, 54 rear.
